MINI lifting spindle drive – shortest design in this weight class

GROB Antriebstechnik's success story continues.

In January 2018 the company extended its range of linear electromechanical drive equipment by a further product. The unique selling point is revealed by the name – the "MINI", whose ratio of stroke to length is unique due to its special design.

The MINI spindle drive – small but powerful – is related both to linear drives and to electrical cylinders and thus slots perfectly into the GROB product range. The result is a multitude of synergy effects for the company, both in production and procurement, and for GROB customers, who thus have a larger variety of solutions at their disposal.

The company is in a constant state of growth and doesn't shy away from new challenges. Market expansion and dispersion is the motto. A decision that is bringing a great deal of potential with it – potential that the company knows how to exploit after the generation change, too.

The MINI series is characterised by its particularly compact design compared to its performance. That's why the drives are in the right place wherever little space is available. Thanks to a large number of options that are available as standard, the MINI drives cover a very wide range of uses. Despite its compact, lightweight design, the MINI is extremely sturdy and durable.

Beneficiaries of that are the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors, the printing and packaging industries as well as stagecraft and façade construction.

The commonly recognisable trend away from hydraulic and pneumatic drives is strengthened even further by this product. The changeover is additionally facilitated by the fact that the MINI strongly resembles a hydraulic cylinder in terms of its external dimensions.

The advantages in comparison with hydraulic / pneumatic drives are obvious:

·         Better controllability

·         Compact

·         Complete all-in-one system with no external pumps

·         No leaks

·         Better energy balance over the service life, because no pumps are needed to build up permanent pressure

What sets the MINI apart from common linear drives is that it is available as a complete system with brake, potentiometer, limit switch and rotary encoder – all in a single cylinder. The compact design is achieved by having the spindle run through the motor. The rotary movement of the motor is transmitted to the spindle nut, which then causes a linear movement of the spindle. Thanks to an integrated planetary gear, high loads can also readily be moved. In addition, each MINI is equipped with integrated limit switches and safety limit switches, so that the user does not have to attach any additional switches to his system. The MINI is also an ideal partner for outdoor applications. Thanks to its stainless steel piston tube and casing tube as well as a possible protection class of IP65 it readily withstands wind and weather.

Small, but great, one might say. However, the MINI is available in a total of five sizes that can move loads in a range from 1000 N to 26000 N.

"Thanks to our trained personnel and the good interaction between engineering and in-house assembly, we can offer our customers individual solutions", says GROB managing director Reimche. "Not only that, our customers benefit from short delivery times and fast reaction times."

Many projects that the company has been tracking since the introduction of the product prove the universal applicability of the MINI.

Façade construction companies use the MINI 01 for the climate control of buildings with large glazed areas. Large glazed areas are opened and closed via a mechanical construction in order to control the room climate. This system can be found, for example, in the large "Badewelt" (Bathing World) in Sinsheim. In such an application it is not only the small size, long service life and smooth running of the drive components, but also their design that stands to the fore.

The crane manufacturing sector has also discovered the MINI. The MINI 0 linear drive opens the brake of the slewing gear release so that the boom can swing according to the wind direction (weathercock principle). The danger of the crane tipping over due to the wind is thus drastically reduced. The MINI 0's small size in relation to its stroke length plus its long service life make it the ideal solution for this application.

To put it briefly: the MINI packs a punch, even though it is called a "mini".

GROB Antriebstechnik not only offers its customers a new product – the company also makes its mode of operation and handling easier for them.
